This is my hometown love letter in watercolor and ink. I created it as a collage of classic Balboa scenes, blending the big icons with the little places that made the area feel like its own world: the Balboa Ferry, Pavilion, Fun Zone, Ferris Wheel, Balboa Inn, and Ruby’s on the Balboa Pier, along with memories of Balboa past like The Handmaiden Gift Shop, Balboa Market, the merry-go-round, Britta’s Café, and Dillman’s Restaurant. This piece was also selected for the 1999 Newport Beach City Arts Commission Juried Art Show.
c. 1995 watercolor, pen and ink
18” x 24”
