My love of butterflies has ramped up as the pandemic locked us down. I started to study them, particularly the Monarch. I became obsessed; my brothers said; How’s 3rd grade, Kathy; I never liked science in school. I bought a small local milkweed in a plastic pot. A female Monarch promptly discovered it on our patio and within days, there appeared a caterpillar. I brought it inside to rescue it from a crow, though now I’ve learned that few animals can eat the poisonous bug. When I released my first butterfly a few weeks later, I cried for an hour. But its life is documented in this painting. With Mr. Frog.
